Native American art and literature have unique contributions for studying Native American people and cultures. Teaching accurately about Native Americans is a complex challenge and can be done by teaching literature, art, science and other liberal arts and humanities. This entire exchange can be entertaining, exciting and fun with a Native American Indian Traditional Storyteller. A wholistic content approach to teaching about Native Americans enables teachers to move beyond tippees, Pocahontas, headbands and powwows to integration of content that is historically accurate and is congruent with local curriculum standards. Unexamined facts or superficial activities can perpetuate myths and stereotypes.
